Jack & Rory's First Birthday!

March 12th 2018 was the best worst day of my life. The events of that day were life changing shrouded in fear, anxiety and pain but ultimately it was the day I started believing in miracles, it was the day I became a mom to the most resilient and strong human beings I have ever known. The 2019 version was oh so different, our babies are ONE y’all, ONE. They have grown so much in the last 12 months, they are no longer tiny, wrinkly, alien looking things, they are big, chunky bouncing baby boys.

We celebrated their birthdays a few days early with our closest family and friends, it was a day of celebration, joy and cake! The boys thoroughly enjoyed all of the attention, cuddles and Rory enjoyed an entire cake all to himself.

It didn’t really hit me until we started singing Happy Birthday to my birthday having kiddos, they are growing up, there is no stopping this train and time goes by way too fast. As I was looking down at their tiny little cake covered hands I was thinking about all of the things those tiny hands will do throughout the course of their lives. They will use them for practical things like playing, eating, drinking, working and wiping their cute little tushies. But they will also use them in the most important moments of their lives, writing their names, wiping their tears, clapping for all of the things they find wonderful, waving hello, signing ALL of the paperwork for their first mortgages, the first time they hold the hand of someone they love, the day they marry their soulmates and get a ring placed on them and then the most important day of all, when they hold their baby’s hand for the first time.

While they are only one year old they are already so special. They have looked death square in the eye and they have beaten it. Nothing in this life can beat them or break them down because they have done the hardest thing already. So I hope those little hands grow and grow, that they love with them, explore with them, lend them to help, change the world with them and always use them for good.

For all the things my hands have held, the best by far is the two of them.
