February 2020 Recap

February started out so strong and was on its way to being one of the best months of the year that is until the absolutely devastating blow we were handed at the very end. Welcome to our February 2020 recap.

February started with a huge Super Bowl victory for Kansas City. You never understand how incredible these things are until you live in a championship city. The days leading up to the big game were electric. You could feel the energy in the air everywhere you went. The game started out rough but in true Chiefs style they came back and brought the Lombardi trophy home. Jack and Rory didn’t totally understand why we were running around the living room screaming while simultaneously it sounded like the 4th of July outside but it will be a great story to tell them someday.

We had some incredible spring like weather in February and we took full advantage. We took the boys to the zoo which was a really cool day. We had taken them once before but they were still too small to interact with everything around them but this time they had a blast. We vlogged this day and you can watch our adventure here:

We also made two trips to see my papa this month. Knowing what I know now I am so glad we made these trips and these memories.

Papa passed on 2/28. We knew he was ill and that our time was limited and even though I thought I was prepared for what was going to happen I was not. While he was in reality my grandfather he served as the only father figure in my life. He took me to the bus stop in the mornings, he took me out for donuts, took me to the races with him, he walked me down the aisle, he was the person I would call whenever I needed help or had car trouble and he supported me completely in everything I did, even when I went to K-State instead of his beloved KU.

He was also completely enamored with my boys. He thought they were so very special and shared their pictures with everyone he met. Having and treasuring pictures was something Papa was passionate about, he made the boys’ first photo albums, not just 1 but 4 of them.

Our most recent visit was our last together but we will forever have the memories in this video because I made it for all of you.

I don’t know yet what my life looks like without him in it but the one thing I am certain of is that I am better for knowing and being raised by him. One of the last things he ever said to Josh and I was ‘You’re doing a real good job raising those boys’, I will know he was right if we end up with two stubborn, funny, kind and hardworking men just like their Papa Ray.
